The word “Talent” shouldn’t exist

I have rejoined Dell as an Account manager for Rabobank and subsidiaries in 2012. I can still remember when I got the change attending the Formula 1 with some of my clients in Belgium Spa Francorchamps. Due to the partnership Dell and Intel had by sponsoring the team Catheram. (Active from 2012-2014)

I remember as a little girl looking to the F1 wasn’t that exciting for me, making the same rounds over and over again, but I have to confess I loved the noise the cars made, not knowing that there is much more involving during a race. That was something I realized after being behind the scenes at Spa Francorchamps. All the amazing techniques, from choosing the right tire, looking to the weather conditions, to the technique of starting the car without a key and much more! Oh yes don’t forget the teamwork. Within the Enterprise/ Corporate business we can learn something from their teamwork, in one word unbelievable.

Attending Microsoft Convergence Barcelona 2014 and had to make a photo with the Lotus car. If I’m looking to this photo again, I’m feeling the excitement again!

Graham and Ken from the Lotus team already told me that Max Verstappen will be the next champ and they were right!

The reason why I’m writing about the F1 has also to do with the fact that Max Verstappen, the Dutch pilot, won the Grand Prix in Spain. The first Dutch driver who ever won and also the youngest driver worldwide. That’s something to be proud of. But it gets me questioning; how come that Max Verstappen at the age of 18 years old won the Grand Prix?

Some people are referring to his talent, but I don’t believe in talent! Talent is a word that shouldn’t exist at all. After 10,000 hours of training in a specific activity every normal person would belong to the top of the world. Max was already racing (karting) as a child and spent more hours of racing than the most people will ever do in a lifetime. Besides that he is born in a racing family, so I believe that his first outfit or present should have something to do with Formula 1:) I strongly believe THAT every child can book extraordinary results, as long as the conditions are met, training, training, and training. Of course you need to be passionate about it and NO-giving up mentality. Max totally fits THIS picture! What an achievement! I have to admit, we “Dutch people” are always very down to earth but seeing Max Verstappen winning the race even made me cry of happiness.

If you want to achieve something or want to become a professional in a specific area, just train as much as possible and make those 10,000 hours and you will see that you’re a winner yourself or the professional you want to be.

Good luck..!!! And please share your comments:-)
